12 Climate Champions Victorious in the Massachusetts Primary Election

September 3, 2026 — On Tuesday, 12 out of the 14 candidates endorsed by the ELM Action Fund with primaries came out on top. In total, 40 ELM Action Fund-endorsed candidates are moving toward the general election on November 3. One Senate race, in the Suffolk & Middlesex District, remains too close to call. 

Massachusetts primary voters put their support behind candidates with environmental protection and clean energy at the top of their priorities.  

“The ELM Action Fund is proud to have contacted thousands of voters in support of candidates running on ambitious environmental plans,” stated Casey Bowers, Executive Director of the ELM Action Fund. “We will keep up the momentum through November, ensuring voters across the Commonwealth know the climate champions on their ballot.” 

This primary election cycle, the ELM Action Fund encouraged thousands of residents to vote by knocking on doors, making phone calls, running digital ads, and sending emails. The newly created Instagram @elmactionfund featured conversations with candidates about their environmental priorities. We will continue to feature candidates on our Instagram and on the Massachusetts Green Voter Guide, which makes it easy for residents to find environmental champions on their ballots. 

The ELM Action Fund is proud to have supported each of our endorsed candidates, including: 

Representative Kate Lipper-Garabedian, a leader on environmental and climatetech funding, advanced in her race for the 5th Middlesex District seat. 

Chris Lambton advanced in the open 1st Barnstable State Representative race. An oyster farm owner and Chair of the Dennis Select Board, his environmental record includes supporting responsible wastewater management and a town-wide glyphosate ban. 

In Lowell, both Representative Tara Hong and John Drinkwater advanced to the general election. Hong, who represents the 18th Middlesex District, has prioritized clean and affordable energy. Drinkwater, a former Lowell City Councilor, is focused on delivering clean energy jobs for the 17th Middlesex District.  

Representative Marjorie Decker successfully advanced through a competitive race for the 25th Middlesex District seat. She has been a resolute climate and labor advocate at the State House since 2013.
