Michelle Wu Endorsed for Re-Election as Mayor of Boston by Environmental League of Massachusetts Action Fund

The Environmental League of Massachusetts Action Fund has endorsed Mayor Michelle Wu for re-election as Mayor of Boston, a credit to her commitment to the environment and climate action. With issues of public health, environmental justice, transportation, and energy policy inextricably linked, we need leaders at every level of government who understand the pressing issues of their community and will call for ambitious action.

“Mayor Wu is the most ambitious and effective climate mayor of any major U.S. city, governing with science, data, and community at the center,” said ELM Action Fund President Elizabeth Turnbull Henry. “Four years in, her vision for climate progress continues to drive groundbreaking action from her administration. The ELM Action Fund is thrilled to endorse her re-election as Boston Mayor.”

“Having served alongside Mayor Wu on the Boston City Council, I have seen firsthand her commitment to protecting the health of Boston’s residents and investing in climate progress,” said ELM Action Fund Board Chair Matt O’Malley. “She is equipping the city with the necessary tools for equitable climate resilience, seen in her work to decarbonize low-income housing and increase access to sustainable transit.”

“The ELM Action Fund is at the forefront of environmental advocacy. They bring every sector together to make sure that we hold ourselves to the highest standards through protecting communities, creating jobs, and ensuring that we all have the healthiest future possible,” said Mayor Wu. “I thank them for their incredible endorsement and support, and I cannot wait to continue working together.”

Since her election in 2021, Mayor Wu has upheld her commitment as Boston’s first climate mayor. She has led the city’s progress on tackling environmental issues through banning fossil fuel use in new city-owned buildings, increasing residents’ clean energy choices, decarbonizing existing municipal infrastructure, and expanding pedestrian and bike access. Within her first 100 days in office, she instituted a fare-free program for MBTA bus routes 23, 28, and 29, thereby expanding transit access.

In her coming term, she will focus on continuing to build new net-zero housing, increasing access to affordable public transit, and investing in climate resiliency for vulnerable neighborhoods. Mayor Wu exemplifies true dedication to prioritizing equitable an ambitious climate progress, and the ELM Action Fund looks forward to continuing to support her leadership.
