Representative Andy Vargas Endorsed by ELM Action Fund PAC

The Environmental League of Massachusetts Action Fund PAC has endorsed Representative Andy Vargas of Haverhill in the election for the 3rd Essex State Representative district, a credit to his commitment to the environment.

“Representative Vargas has been a passionate advocate for Haverhill for his entire life,” stated ELM Action Fund Executive Director Joe O’Brien. “He knows that both Haverhill and cities and towns across the state can benefit from a clean energy economy that will power us into the future.”

“Representative Vargas is another rising star in the state legislature that has a long term vision for the Commonwealth,” said ELM Action Fund President Elizabeth Henry. “He will push us into a clean energy future that benefits all Massachusetts residents.”

Representative Vargas has made cleaning up the Merrimack River a priority. He has also been a champion for the push to a 100% clean energy future in Massachusetts. He has supported lifting the net metering cap and electrifying Massachusetts transport. Representative Vargas also supports increasing access to solar for low income and low credit score individuals throughout Massachusetts and creating incentives for landlords to install solar panels on rental properties.

“Someday, we’re going to look back and ask ourselves whether or not we did everything we could to prevent or limit the effects of climate change,” said Representative Vargas. “I want to make sure we’re taking smart, bold actions to protect the world around us, including focusing on environmental justice in our communities and the economic benefits of green energy infrastructure across the Commonwealth. I’m glad to have ELM’s support and look forward to working with them to keep Massachusetts clean for generations to come.”

Representative Vargas attended Boston University and received a Bachelor’s Degree, with a double major in Political Science and International Relations, with a concentration in Foreign Policy and Security Studies. He founded the Boston University Political Action Organization (BUPAO) and served as the Director of the Department for City Affairs for BU’s Student Government.

While pursuing his degree, Representative Vargas interned at two offices in the Massachusetts State House and spent 5 months in Madrid, Spain, studying abroad and interning for the U.S. Embassy, under the Department of Commerce’s U.S. Commercial Service. He also served as a White House intern under the Obama Administration, researching and writing on issues pertaining to immigration, the economy, Latin America, and more. In 2015, Andy was elected to the Haverhill City Council. He is the Senior Marketing Manager at Entrepreneurship for All (EforAll) and resides in downtown Haverhill with his wife, Rikelma.
