BOSTON – Today, the Environmental League of Massachusetts Action Fund released the Massachusetts delegation’s scores for the League of Conservation Voters’ 2025 National Environmental Scorecard. Massachusetts’ delegation once again earned some of the highest marks in the country, with each senator and representative receiving an “A” grade for their commitment to protecting our environment and advancing a clean energy future.
Despite continued federal inaction on the climate crisis and growing threats to clean energy progress, Massachusetts’ delegation stood strong. They voted to protect vital federal climate and clean energy laws and defend the policies that help lower energy costs, expand deployment of wind, solar, and efficiency technologies, and support a nationwide clean energy transition.
“Massachusetts families are already seeing the benefits of federal climate investments — from lower energy bills to new clean energy jobs,” said Casey Bowers, Executive Director of the ELM Action Fund, an LCV affiliate. “Facing massive opposition in Washington, our delegation has made clear that our jobs, health, and democracy are at stake. They stood up for the climate laws delivering real results, pushed back against polluters and rollbacks, and helped protect the progress our communities are counting on. That kind of leadership is exactly what this moment demands.”
While Massachusetts’ delegation continues to demonstrate strong climate leadership, the 2025 Scorecard also underscores a broader reality: Congress is still falling short of the scale and speed of action our nation needs. The next two years will be critical for defending hard-won progress and ensuring Congress does not retreat from the commitments communities are counting on. The full delegation’s scores for 2025 are:
Senator Elizabeth Warren: 97%
Senator Ed Markey: 100%
Representative Katherine Clark: 100%
Representative Richard Neal: 100%
Representative Jim McGovern: 100%
Representative Ayanna Pressley: 97%
Representative Jake Auchincloss: 97%
Representative Bill Keating: 100%
Representative Seth Moulton: 94%
Representative Lori Trahan: 100%
Representative Stephen Lynch: 100%
“We’ve never seen a Congressional majority so willfully abandon its responsibilities to protect their own constituents and the Constitution and instead relentlessly attack the health and safety of our communities, our environment, and our right to a free and fair democracy,” said LCV Senior Vice President for Government Affairs Sara Chieffo. “Those members of Congress who voted for the Big Ugly Bill, killed clean energy incentives at a time when energy demand is at all-time highs and energy prices are rising higher than ever. It’s no surprise that while this Congress has been doing the bidding of President Trump and Big Polluters, utility costs rose 13% nationwide last year. We commend the members of Congress who forced votes to protect U.S.-made clean energy, our treasured public lands, critical federal agency funding, and our rights — pushing back on extreme Republican efforts to make it harder for people to vote and hand even more power to Trump.”
LCV has published a National Environmental Scorecard every Congress since 1970. The Scorecard represents the consensus of experts from more than 20 respected environmental and conservation organizations who selected the key votes on which members of Congress should be scored. LCV scores legislators’ votes on the most important environmental issues of the year, including energy, climate change, environmental justice, public health, public lands and wildlife conservation, democracy, and spending for environmental programs. The votes included in the Scorecard presented members of Congress with a real choice and helped distinguish which legislators are working for environmental protection. It is available for download in English, in Spanish, and online in both languages at scorecard.lcv.org.
