Representative Marjorie Decker Endorsed by Environmental League of Massachusetts Action Fund PAC
BOSTON – The Environmental League of Massachusetts Action Fund has endorsed Representative Marjorie Decker of Cambridge in the election for the 25th Middlesex State Representative district, a credit to her commitment to the environment.
“Representative Decker is a strong leader that knows how to create jobs for the 21st century,” stated ELM Action Fund Executive Director Joe O’Brien. “She knows that in cities like Cambridge and across the state we need to build a clean energy economy that will benefit all residents.”
“Representative Decker understands the value of keeping public space available to families, both in Cambridge and across the Commonwealth. She has also been a strong advocate for clean energy,” said ELM Action Fund President Elizabeth Henry. “We need strong leaders like her in the State House who understand that we can have both a strong economy and a healthy environment.”
During last week’s House debates on several energy bills, Representative Decker co-sponsored amendments that would raise the RPS to 3%, set greenhouse gas reduction goals for 2030 and 2040, prohibit a pipeline tax on electric ratepayers, reduce the amount of lost and unaccounted for gas that consumers pay for and is leaked into the atmosphere, and establish an environmental justice advisory council. She also filed a bill that would divest state pensions from coal and fossil fuels that was adopted in the Senate omnibus energy bill.
“The sense of urgency to ensure that we reduce our carbon footprint and protect environmental regulations that are being eroded and reversed under the Trump administration becomes more important each day,” said Decker. “Massachusetts has been on the forefront of advancing environmental policies–but we are losing this stature and must act to both protect the health and well being of Massachusetts and also truly set the bar for what responsible government looks like and acts like.”
Representative Decker was the first in her family to graduate from high school at Cambridge Rindge and Latin. She went on to graduate with honors from UMass Amherst, and earned her Masters at Harvard’s Kennedy School of Government in 2007. She served as legislative aide to former Representative Alice Wolf, her predecessor, as well as Representative Ellen Story, gaining extensive experience in the state legislature.
